Beitrag Fitting chrome door handles
I've recently bought some lovely chrome door handles.
Now the swapping will be a project in the near future when the weather allows me to do this without getting my fingers freezed off

Does anyone know about a how-to, can't seem to be finding a decent one.
If anyone has swapped them I'd be pleased if you can write a few words with hints etc.

TA :)

me did three years ago.
Err, should be in the archives ... and the write-up with website is in my todo-list for retirement :geek:

However from memory there are at last two things .., beside of the fiddly getting out the assy.
1. the two bolts may kill the thread in the plastic part when you bolt off the grip

(be prepared with two short M6 srews as replacement for the original)

2. take care with the tiny plastic brackets holding the grip in place (in the door panel).
They break easy.

I'll see for the other pictures on my HD, ... later .... this year :(
The chrome grip change itself is just a straightforward job with push out shafts and seeing for the right direction of the spring.

Good to hear that you take your time to do accurate preparation ... ;)

I'm quite good at that myself. Been preparing to change my suspension for spax units since
december. Preparing in this case means have the dampers in a box on the tv.
Putting the dampers in the book shelf, more interesting to look at than the dummy talk shows
on tv. But most importantly preparing means waiting for the arctic temperature to go away.

Now then, after all that good planning I had a good time plan to do this in about four hours.
As you know, any mechanical work is always closely followed by Mr. Murphy.... it took me two full
weekends...

Front is easy but the rear.... )(&%%&#¤/&***! goddammit! :konfus:
On the first one, the damper shaft broke(badly rusted) where you put the allen key in... very funny
Took me the first weekend to sort that out.
Next one, the hole for the allen key went round ...
Brilliant idea pops up, put in torx key instead(usually a very good trick for this... usually ...)
Of course next thing the torx key broke.
Heavy artillery needed. Fetched the dremel and cut the damned shaft off!

All done now! Happy happy. Feels much better than the originals!

Grüsse
peter
ps. You could almost believe these cars where build by midget chinamen from the beginning...
To get to the rear dampers is difficult. There's enough space for two fingers in there.. but what you really need
is enough space for at least three hands...

Cheers, seen at FB.

And don't worry about the broken lug(s). Most important are the bolts.
