Beitrag How test the coolant level switch PCJ000040
I'm in trouble with the PCJ000040 water level switch, I've just installed the new expansion tank in my TF135 MY2002.
This is the second switch, the 1st one was replaced under guarantee it was closed (internal contacts sticked ?).
I carried out several tests, pushing down the float to simulate a low level as well I emptied the tank ! for a more realistic test, nothing
The wiring is OK, bypassing the switch the beeper goes on, 12 V OK .
I removed the switch and tested it with a multimeter, approaching a magnet or a steel ring it doesn't switch.
DOes the float contains a steel ring or a magnet ?
Any suggestion to test this reed switch?

Seems like your second sensor is also broken. Get it replaced under guarantee again.

Hi Titanium,
take care while testing with a multimeter.
The read-switch does not allow to many amperes.
It can stick if there is to much juice flowing.

magnet ring is used.

Currency must be far below 10mA. Otherwise the reed-contact goes bust.

Hi Dieter
thanks for your advice, I had the same doubt the buzzer absorbtion 7 mA, so it would be safe.

Let me make my compliments for the huge job you did creating this website.
The amount of material you collected is impressive.
I'm a 56Y mech engineer, with a first professional life in racing engine and competition, today I'm the Gen Industrial Manager of a big soft drinks company. The MGTF was a gift I bought for myself, it's a MY2002 that I'looking to update.
Thanks a lot.

Cheers ! One year younger than me !!
Where about are you located in Italy ? May be an option to shake hands sooner or later.

I ask cause two groups of this forum are going to South-Tyrol currently and in next week.
May be it's worth to watch out for some silly blokes from Germany near lake Garda.

Btw. 2010 is a big meeting of the MGCC mith more than 250 MG's in Gabicce Mare.
I'll be there if my MGF lasts so long.

Anyway. 7mA should be OK for the reed contact.
However, Pascal had similar troubles with a sensor.

Hi
so I've a good companion.
I'm living in Rome, but I work in France, I commute on weekly basis, so I can profit my TF only in the WE.
What you are telling me about Gabicce meeting in 2010 is Fantastic, let me know more details as available, I'll share on other italian forums trying to collect more people.
Will you join the septmber meeting in Holland, it's too far from me.
I've 2 fiends of mine one owns a MBA (more a Porsche 356 MY 1956 my dream) the other a MGF MY1999.
